The Offshore Mechanical Systems Leader will report to the Offshore Project Manager (Acoustics), Offshore Wind.

Job Overview

The Offshore Mechanical Systems Leader is responsible for leading a team of technicians in the inspecting, servicing, and operating underwater acoustic mitigation systems; this includes diesel fuel systems supplying generators, marine diesel generators, onboard vessel deck and winch systems, hose deployment systems, and air compressor. The Offshore Mechanical Systems Leader will oversee the onshore mobilization of the equipment, conduct mobilization on the vessel, conduct deployment, operation and recovery of bubble curtain hoses, inspecting and servicing engine equipment, troubleshooting, and making minor repairs. The Offshore Mechanical Systems Leader will be responsible for expertly diagnosing and fixing problems with marine electrical and mechanical systems of any size.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Leading a team of 3-4 technicians in the operations, maintenance, and deployment of underwater acoustic mitigation systems (vessel-based air compressors, hoses, reels, etc.)
  • Conducting inspections, service, troubleshooting, and repairs on:
  • Diesel Fuel Systems, including values, filters, pumps, etc.
  • Marine Diesel Generators, including alternator, voltage regulator, cooling/exhaust systems, lubrication systems, battery chargers, and control panel
  • Deck Crane Systems, including boom, jib, gear, outriggers, counterweights, re-enforced steel cables, hook, and control systems.
  • A-frame and davit systems
  • Air Compressor Systems
  • Assemble & attach functional hardware to assemblies using mechanical hand tools and power tools.
  • Perform functional/continuity tests on completed assemblies per procedures.
  • Perform the startup and function test of equipment systems.
  • Perform visual inspection of components to verify quality and correctness to the drawing.
  • Troubleshoot systems and make necessary repairs or corrections to system or processes.
  • Completing service records and repair documents.
  • Leading other technicians and trades to accomplish maintenance tasks.
  • Adhering to all corporate core values, policies, and procedures in the execution of all responsibilities.
  • As required and as time permits, providing maintenance services to ThayerMahan facilities as request from other divisions.

The Offshore Mechanical Systems Leader is expected to be deployed 40% of the year on offshore, and 60% of the year preparing for the next deployment. Deployments will typically be for 2 to 3 weeks and will require living onboard offshore vessels during those deployments. Position requires frequent use of vertical or inclined ladders and periods of kneeling, stooping, or maneuvering in close quarters. May be exposed to moving objects, high elevations, sharp edges, poor illumination, inclement weather and other potentially hazardous conditions.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Due to our work with the U.S. Government, this role legally requires that you are a U.S. citizen.
  • 10+ years of experience conducting maintenance on shipboard or offshore equipment
  • 5+ years of maritime experience (military, commercial, etc.)
  • Proven work experience as an air compressor Mechanic
  • Knowledge of marine engine and electrical auxiliary systems.
  • Knowledge of marine hydraulic systems and related parts.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work at sea.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, ability to work safely on own initiative with self-imposed quality control standards and with time constraints.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt is essential.
  • Ability to be flexible in extreme conditions and harsh working environments
  • Proficient in reading schematics and work plans.
  • Ability to work to prearranged deadlines, embrace change and continual improvement.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license from state of residence and valid proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to obtain TWIC card and pass any required safety testing to include classes such as Basic Plus, OSHA 10 hour, etc.

Training

Recommended training:

  • STCW Basic Deck Qualification (First Aid & CPR, Fire Fighting, Personal Safety, Personal Survival, Social Responsibility)
