We are looking for an Engineering Technician to join our Persistent Surveillance System (PSS) team. Our group is responsible for our fleet or unmanned systems and buoys. We work on mechanical and electrical integration of sensors, mooring systems, and communication systems, as well as all preventative and corrective maintenance for the platforms and sensors.
The PSS group is also responsible for deploying and recovering these systems in locations all over the world. If interested, there is the opportunity to travel and spend time at sea.
This position is in Groton, CT.
Your Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Performing preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on our vehicles and payload systems
- Building our payload boxes and the internal electronics
- Reviewing and revising buildout guides for payload assemblies
- Troubleshoot payload systems
- Prepare systems for at sea operations
- Physical and Electrical inspection of systems when they return from at sea operations
- May travel to assist in system preparations on the dock
- May participate in at sea deployments and/or recoveries of systems
- Participates in design reviews and design modifications meetings and discussions
- Prototype solutions for maritime hardening of systems
- Keep the warehouse and workspace in an orderly state
- If participating in at-sea operations:
- Other physical tasks include occasional prolonged standing/walking; use of hands for basic /fine grasping and manipulation, repetitive motion, reaching above and below the shoulders, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, twisting, and stooping
- May work at least 8 hours per day and, at times in excess of 12 hours per day, 7 days per week
- Sleep and work hours can deviate from those on land
- May be expected to work on watch schedule (such as 8 hours on and 8 hours off or 12 hours on and 8 hours off) for all or part of a deployment or to work as hours are needed to accomplish the planned work
- May need to travel during holidays and for long distances to and from foreign ports
- Sea conditions will lead to active ship motion
- Should be able to carry heavy gear and participate in the loading and unloading of the ship as well as in the activities on deck and in the labs during the cruise

Desired Experience:
- Electrical and electromechanical troubleshooting
- Knowledge of maritime environments
- Interest in going to sea for short periods of time
- Experience with marine robotics systems
- Experience with waterproofing electrical systems
