Defense and International Business Development Lead

You’ll use your operational experience and strong analysis and communication skills to identify, assess, and manage defense and maritime security business projects as a member of our Business Development team. You’ll work in an environment that’s fast-paced, collaborative, and on the cutting edge of autonomous maritime solutions. You’ll work closely with our expert teams in applied ocean sciences, engineering, and operations as you support customers with important missions and identify new opportunities to grow our business. You will support the VP for Defense and International Business, located in the Washington, DC area, and the Director for Strategy and Marketing with customer engagement and business development. A current security clearance is required.
This position is located in the Washington, DC area. ThayerMahan plans to open an office in northern Virginia in 2023.
Your Tasks & Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing and collaborating on defense and international business projects and providing operational expertise in maritime and undersea security operations.
- In collaboration with technology, operations, and business experts in the company, identify and assess defense business opportunities for the company, support the preparation of competitive proposals to win business, and provide subject matter expertise in work for our customers.
- Stay current with technical and business developments in the company.
- Engage customers to understand their needs, provide them with expertise to help them succeed and to help our business grow.
- Develop and update defense business concepts for use in customer engagements and proposals.
- Help the Business Development team write, edit, and organize proposals, presentations, briefings, white papers, and other business products.
- Assist with presentations to customers.

Minimum Qualifications:
Due to our work with the U.S. Government, this role legally requires that you are a U.S. citizen.
3-5 years of experience in naval undersea and/or maritime security operations
- Qualified submarine warfare officer with ASW/USW experience.
- Experience in submarine, ASW/USW, and other maritime operations in deployed environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- US government security clearance, SECRET or higher.
Desired Experience:
2+ years of experience in Navy requirements and/or program management (e.g. NAVSEA, NAVWAR, Warfare Center, Warfighting Development Center, Fleet N8, OPNAV N9X, or other similar experience),
- Familiarity with emerging technologies including uncrewed autonomous systems (UUV, USV, UAS, etc.).
- Experience in analyzing proposal requirements and assessing organizational fit to develop competitive proposals.
- Experience in managing and preparing Federal Government proposals, especially Department of Defense/Navy and Department of Homeland Security/Coast Guard.
