Summary:
The Acoustic Intelligence Analyst will work closely with and learn from our expert teams in applied ocean sciences, engineering, and operations on DoD customer projects involving undersea and maritime acoustics, AI/ML, and other surveillance and data collection areas.  This work will primarily be in the Washington DC Metro/Northern Virginia area.  This position will help cultivate potential future business relationships and contribute to developing contract proposals and performing on awarded contracts.  Strong work ethic, excellent team player, and a positive “can do” attitude a must.

Location:
Washington DC Metro Area, including Northern Virginia and Maryland.  Potential work includes Norfolk/Dam Neck, VA area also. Travel outside of Washington DC Area is ~20%

Responsibilities:
ThayerMahan Operational Acoustic SME

  • Integrate and advance existing ThayerMahan contractual commitments with organizations such as PEO Integrated Warfare Systems (IWS5), Johns Hopkins University/APL, Navy Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Working Group, OPNAV N975 working group, Office of Naval Research, Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), PMS485 and Commander, Undersea Surveillance.
  • Work as a Subject Matter Expert in the Washington DC Area to provide subject matter expertise on awarded contracts and support Business Development efforts.
  • Interface with ThayerMahan’s acoustic analysis team and other subject matter experts in Groton, CT for unmanned system development, operational intelligence and ACINT SME analysis.

 Qualifications:
Due to our work with the U.S. Government, this role legally requires that you are a U.S. citizen.

The ideal applicant has supervisory-level experience as US Navy Acoustic Intelligence (ACINT) Specialist (NEC 0416/708B) with at least 8-10 years of operational experience as a qualified ACINT Specialist and significant experience as a US Navy SONAR Technician including deployed operations on submarines and/or ASW warships. Candidate can be either a former STS/STG. Previous experience with unmanned acoustic surveillance systems and US Navy’s Rapidly Deployed Surveillance Systems (RDSS) is a plus. Post-Navy experience in the operational acoustic intelligence community, experience with MATLAB/Python for the purposes of digital signal processing, experience with advanced acoustic communications and other novel acoustic technologies are a plus.

  • Able to gain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance
  • Subject to background investigation

Minimum requirements:

  • Holds US Navy ACINT Specialist Qualification (NEC 0416/708B)
  • Graduate of Navy SONAR Pipeline schools through Prospective SONAR Leading Chief Petty Officer – CIN 130-0460

  • Navy Instructor experience
  • Bachelor or master’s degree in related acoustics/electrical engineering field.
